The gorge is at its best twenty-four hours after a wet spell, when the Doon runs loud and the moss glows. A walker's notes.
There is a precise moment, about a day after heavy rain, when Ness Glen decides to show off. The River Doon rises into its voice, the spray lifts, and every fern and cushion of moss on the gorge walls turns a green that looks lit from inside.
